The Spitfire Named “Aruba”

PLANE - THE SPITFIRE NAMED “ARUBA”

One remarkable contribution during World War II was the Spitfire named “Aruba”. Built by the Supramarine, a British aircraft manufacturer, the Spitfire was a short-range high-performance interceptor aircraft used by the Royal Air Force (RAF) and other allied countries during World War II. 

In support of the Allied war effort, Spitfire fundraising actions were held in Britain and other Allied countries. On Aruba, a successful fundraising,

coordinated by the Eagle (Shell) Petroleum Company employees, collected sufficient funds to buy the above-mentioned Spitfire aircraft serial no. AD 210. It was delivered and put into action on 1 October 1941 by the RAAF (Royal Australian Air Force). Symbolizing Aruba’s strong commitment to the Allied war effort during World War II.
